18th Annual CMA Awards Summary
Singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson co-hosts with singer Anne Murray. Murray's record, A Little Good News, wins album
of the year, and the title track takes the single of the year honor. R&B singer Lionel Richie surprises the crowd and joins
Kenny Rogers durig his performance of "Lady." The legendary Ray Charles (ironically nominated in the Horizon category) performs
a medley from his album Friendship. While Lee Greenwood earns his second male vocalist award, new artist Reba McEntire
receives the female vocalist CMA award. The Horizon Award goes to the mother-daughter duo the Judds, and song of the year
goes to Larry Henley and Jeff Silbar for the song "The Wind Beneath My Wings." The pairing of Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias
are named duo of the year, and Alabama continue to dominate the entertainer of the year category. Recording and publishing
pioneer Ralph Sylvester Peer and singer-songwriter Floyd Tillman are named to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
